And you’re wondering why your calendar isn’t jammed packed!
Simply telling people what you do, or what your passionate about, or what your title is won’t make you successful. It isn’t going to have people lining up at the door. And then you may explain what self-actualize even means, what motivation means, what virtual really means – and still nada.
So what will get your calendar filled with clients, gigs, and cash-flow?
Remember Charlie from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory….we, my friends, have scored the Golden Ticket. The Golden Ticket isn’t a lifetime supply of chocolate but if you pay close attention, it is a way to get out of your own way and jump on this entrepreneurship (hmmmm interesting it’s a ship…I bet some of you feel like you’re grounded when you would rather be sailing the 7 seven seas of earning a living.)
What makes some businesses successful? It’s Getting REAL with where you are and where you want to be. It’s also realizing that you don’t know squat about running a successful business. Your coach training school may have transformed your life (which is super fabulous by the way) and given you skills and knowledge about being a coach, your speaker training may have equipped you with the way to present “your story” with confidence, and your VA training…oh crap you don’t have VA training. How the hell is that transformation, that confidence, and really wanting to be “virtual” transforming into a business? I know…it’s not. Hey it’s ok, some people make great employees, and some make great entrepreneurs. But if you are trying to make a go of things on your own just hanging your shingle on the door isn’t going to cut it. PS: You already know that though, don’t you?
A recent Forbes article stated: a Bentley University survey of millennials found 66% of respondents have a desire to start their own business, 37% would like to work for themselves, and 25% would like to own their own company.
How many of these business are going to be successful? 9 out of 10 will fail. So the question becomes, how do you not become one of the 9? You Get Smart…and we’re not talking about the talking into your shoe kind of smart (Cue: Agent 99 and the Chief!)
It is time to build up your business muscles and start figuring out what to do and where to go.
All over the glorious world wide web (omg – I have 18 tabs in my browser open just as I type this) there are programs, ideas, and victim to victory stories.
- make six figures in 60 days
- grow your list by a gazillion over the holiday weekend while vacationing in Bali
- learn how to write a bestseller book over lunch.
The list goes on and on. And it all looks so glamorous and filled with glitter and overnight success stories….
While we like glitter and we are successful – we like to share the more realistic side of what focus, direction and serious massive action can accomplish.
We have been in business for 9 years (Jenn) and 6 years (Karen). We did not let our bank accounts dwindle to $3.12 while we were surviving on Top Ramon noodles and having a bathroom floor moment (ala Elizabeth Gilbert in Eat, Pray, Love). We weren’t like those horror stories…we didn’t cash out our 401K to buy the one magic “six figure program” that promised to have us rolling in the dough. I repeat…we did not do that!
Instead we were smart. We focused on impact. We focused on our local communities, our contacts, and our strengths. And we worked. And took massive action. And we worked. Over the years we continue to grow and have built solid, profitable, strong businesses. And we worked. You can too. Remember nothing works unless you do.
Start with the basics and get out there. Know you niche, own you niche, studying your niche. Do a local workshop. Do another. And do 100 more. Meet people, talk to people, and share with people. Create relationships. Rinse and repeat. And do it again.
Saying you are a life coach, a speaker, or a VA (or insert solopreneurship of your choice) does not have people flocking to your doors – but getting out in the world and sharing the value of what you do can have the line forming soon.
Remember the math….add value — subtract pain!
You get smart and you ask yourself the right questions…here’s a few to start answering….
- What experience do you have in running a business? (Remember, Passion ain’t paying the bills)
- What is your business model?
- What’s your marketing plan?
- What resources do you have?
- How effective are your selling techniques?
- Are you selling something people want?
Get Out of Your Own Way Ones
- What action do you know you should be taking but aren’t?
- How often are you hiding behind your computer because you don’t know what to do?
- What are you afraid might happen regarding this business thing – that you are actually creating as a reality for yourself?
- How is your perfectionism getting in your way?
Are you looking for a paper bag because you’re hyperventilating right now?
So the REAL part. You know you “could” do more. You know it’s time to stop glorifying busy. You know you “could” ditch the excuses. You know you “could” admit it….go ahead say: my name is (fill in the blank) and I “could” do more to make my business successful.
You “could” stop playing Pokemon Go, you “could” close Facebook, you “could” quit binge watching Game of Thrones.
When you are ready to get serious – you “could” come and find us. When you are ready to invest a reasonable and affordable amount of money to get a solid foundation – we’re here. If you are ready to dig deep, have a high degree of accountability and start to create a tangible offering – well…you get it. Not because we think we have “magic” that can create an overnight success – but because we take what we did and share it with you….it’s our version of the Golden Ticket for you!
